Gaelin Elmore's Individual Belonging Assessment

Do you BELONG at work?

In a world where belonging matters more than ever, it's becoming increasingly rare to belong at work. One of the biggest obstacles, beyond direct opposition to belonging, is a simple reality: belonging is hard to measure.

Most surveys ask whether you feel like you belong. Both you and I know it's more complicated than that. Fitting in can feel like belonging if you've never experienced what it's like to truly belong at work. Brené Brown says "the opposite of belonging is fitting in." This assessment measures what belonging is actually made of: the authenticity you bring, how your environment receives it, and three research-grounded conditions: psychological safety, social connection, and co-creation. And to make sure it's as accurate as possible, we apply these elements across the different levels of your organization: your immediate team, your direct leader, and your extended team members.

ImmediateThe team you work with every day, where belonging is felt first and lost fastest.
LeadershipYour supervisor and the leaders above them, the relationship that shapes what feels possible.
ExtendedThe next layer out from your immediate team, which may include other divisions and the organization as a whole.
Your answers are recorded anonymously so patterns across respondents can be studied. Your results are shown to you first, and your name and email are attached to them only if you ask for your report at the end. This browser keeps a random id so repeat attempts can be counted; it holds nothing personal.

The Belonging Matrix

Your action, meeting your environment's reception.
What you offer, and what comes back
Belonging has two variables. Three acts are yours to make; three conditions are how this place answers them. Each act is paired with the condition that receives it.
Your action
Their reception
Green from 7.5. Amber from 5.5. Burnt orange below the crosshairs.
Level by level
The same two variables, scored separately at each level. Belonging is rarely even. This is where yours holds and where it breaks.
